Printing Filamet™ isn’t just about the filament—it’s about the entire setup. Over the years, we’ve refined our print space to better handle the unique needs of metal, ceramic, and glass-infused filaments. What started with a Printrbot Simple Wood on a basement workbench has grown into a fine-tuned workspace that supports reliable printing and sintering.
Over the years, we have found that the best way to print any of our materials is by providing enough distance from the extruder to allow the filament to straighten out and not bend back on itself. This means, with a direct drive printer, setting the spool back a little and just over a foot away from the extruder. On a bowden fed extruder with a fixed feeder, placing the spool closer to the feeder would provide the best results. When the feeder moves on a bowden fed printer, it gets a bit more complicated. It helps to just take the direct drive setup, and turn it on its side.
We have seen some interesting setups, from PVC frames around the printer, to filament hanging off the table with the printer on the floor. The way you get your Filamet™ to the extruder can be pretty unique.
